It doesn't get top ratings for three small niggles, but they may matter to others who are more particular about these sorts of things. There is also the potential added bonus of this tale being narrated by a Dickens family member which gives it a sense of authenticity. Priced as it is, this is a good narration.

Possibly over dramatic, but memorable for the same reason. I know this is one of BS’s first published novels so I definitely am willing to cut him some slack on this.Any narration of Oliver Twist has to pass a rather formidable test for me, as I had an abridged reading which my mother gave me years ago on two cassettes read by Ron Moody. Just wanted to air some grievances and see if anyone here agrees with me. It feels like vin could easily just go “hey, I’m gonna soothe you, tell me what emotion I’m making you feel” as a quick and dirty test to see who it is, and even if you throw that possibility away it feels like vin jumps to the conclusion that the condra MUST be an important character when it feels incredibly likely to just be a random staff member or something.Īnyways, I’m looking forward to seeing the end of the story still. I really loved the twist of who the condra was, but again I felt like the investigation itself was boring. Dawkson in particular got sidelined hard. But in Well it feels like some crew members just don’t matter. In Final Empire, everyone got a little bit of time to hang out with vin and teach her something new, and nobody felt left out. On top of this, I really don’t like how the core crew got completely sidelined for most of the book. Most of the meaningful actions taken by characters have only resulted in delaying the armies outside from attacking, which feels like the situation is never actually moving forwards because of the characters actions. The characters don’t feel like they’re pushing the story forwards, and it’s more like the story is just happening around them. Then I started the Well of Ascension and is it just me or is the sequel really lackluster compared to the first book? Like, I’m still interested in where the story goes, I like seeing Eland become a better king, I love Zane and seeing him confront Vin was great, but… the whole first two acts of the book felt like a whole lot of nothing.

I loved just about everything about it, it was a really fun story with little not to like. So I read The Final Empire and absolutely loved it. No spoilers past that point, or for any other Brandon Sanderson books please.Īlso, I’ve only been listening to the audiobooks so if I misspell a character or place name that’s why. Putting my spoiler level upfront right here and now: I’ve finished the final empire, and am on chapter 51 of the well of ascension.
